How the warranty works?
Because applications for a warranty must be submitted by the builder you will need to ask them for a WaterTight Warranty.
Although the Warranty is for the homeowner, it is guaranteeing the builder’s work, so we need them to complete it.
The Warranty applies in the event that your builder is unwilling or unable to complete their obligations under the contract they have with you. So if you’re unhappy with anything, your first point of contact should always your the builder. If there’s no resolution with them, then you should contact the Builtin team.
If your builder already has our WaterTight Seal of Approval they will be able to complete an application with you straight away.
If they are not yet an Approved Builder, they will first need to qualify to be able to offer you the Warranty. We only accept builders who meet our strict criteria, which means they must:
- Meet our criteria for business and construction management
- Be a Licensed Building Practitioner
- Have previous experience in undertaking reclad, remediation and exterior renovation work
- Meet our financial solvency criteria
Once your builder is approved they will be able to complete a Warranty application form together with you.
After Builtin New Zealand approves the application, it will send you a Construction Period Certificate and written confirmation that the Warranty is accepted. When the construction and contractual obligations are completed, a Warranty Certificate will be issued.
You should not start work before your warranty is in place.
